Pit bulls are actually not a breed or a breedmix. “pit bulls” are defined as one of, or havingan appearance that are similar to, any of the following breeds:

Pit bull dogs are outgoing and people friendly…they are intelligent, they excel in dog sports,search and rescue work, drug and bomb detection work, and as therapy dogs.

Pit bull type dogs do not have any uniquemechanism that allows these dogs to lock their jaws. There are no mechanical differencesbetween pit bulls and other dogs.

Pit bull type dogs do not have massive biting power. There is no scientific evidence that any kind of dog bites differently than any other.
While bite force cannot be reliably determined in dogs, professionals concur that dogs bite with a force of 200 psi to 450 psi, depending on its size.

The American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrierm pass the American Temperament Testing Society’s temperament test at rates of 86.8 percent, 84.2 percent and 90.3 percent respectively.
Compare this to Golden retrievers 85.2 percent, Collie 80.1 percent, Great Danes 80.0 percentand Beagles 80.0 percent.

The physical traits in dogs, from size, weight tofur to head and ear size, are determined by 2%of its genes. A very small proportion of a particular breed in a dog's ancestry may result in a strong resemblance to that breed.
Because of this, it's impossible to determine the "predominant breed" or predict the behavior of any dog based on soley appearance, no matterhow striking the resemblance.
